Learn how to build better social engagement with YouTube's Community Spaces

Hello and welcome to this week’s Social Buddy newsletter, where we share the news from the world of social media, insights and tools for creators, and the latest social media marketing trends.

Some highlights you’ll find this week:

🎁 It may only be Christmas in July this week, but Meta released their Holiday Performance Playbook early

📝 Instagram “Notes” have expanded, prioritizing more private interactions on the app

🏈 Reddit will be the new go-to site for exclusive sports media, AMAs, and behind-the-scenes footage for the NFL, NBA, and more.

Check out the biggest headlines from this week in social media:

Instagram’s “Notes” feature has expanded to Reels and Posts, promoting private engagement

Instagram has expanded on its “Notes” feature, so now users can leave a Note on Reels and on grid posts. Before, Notes could only be left in your inbox or on your profile for 24 hours. Now, users can leave a Note on a Reel or a grid post, where it will stay for 3 days. Notes are only viewable by followers that you follow back, or those marked as close friends on the platform. Instagram is promoting Notes as a way to “share your hottest takes and unfiltered opinions on timely content” for only your friends to see. These semi-private and disappearing text blurbs give users more opportunity to engage with their mutuals and people they actually know on Instagram. Read more.

Reddit’s new partnership with major sports leagues will boost ad opportunities & increase revenue

Reddit has officially partnered with some of the biggest major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and NASCAR. The partnership will allow Reddit to share game highlights, behind-the-scenes content, and AMAs (ask-me-anything sessions) with players and officials from their respective leagues. We expect to see a big increase in Reddit’s ad revenue as a result, as advertisers can show ads along with this exclusive video content. This partnership follows other revenue-focused efforts since Reddit went public earlier this year. Read more.

YouTube is testing Community Spaces, building more social engagement on the platform

YouTube is becoming more and more social media-like. Their latest test feature is “Community Spaces” where fans on a channel can find text updates from the channel creator and post their own thoughts and comment on other posts in the space. This comes after last year’s “Community Post” feature, which allowed creators to post text updates on their channels. Now that fans can share their own posts as well and comment within the space, there’s more opportunity for community engagement on YouTube. For now, the feature is only being rolled out to select accounts, but if it’s successful, it should be available on all channels in the future. Read more.

Meta is rolling out custom offers on Instagram CTAs in a win for advertisers

Meta is testing out a new feature that will be a big win for advertisers on their platforms: custom offers on Instagram ads CTA buttons. This means that your call-to-action on an Instagram ad could include offer details like 20% off coupons or dollar amounts off. Advertisers will be able to highlight their promotions and improve click-through rate and potentially boost sales. Meta’s ad manager will be able to dynamically pull any available offers from the URL, but you can also manually edit or add an offer. You can choose up to 20 offers per ad, and Meta will predict and push the one more likely to convert. For now, this feature is only available on single-media ads on Instagram stories and only for certain ad accounts, but we expect more availability down the road. Read more.

TikTok’s new Eventbrite integration will help promote events and sell tickets on the app

TikTok has partnered with Eventbrite, an events and ticketing platform, making it much easier to promote real life events with links to tickets right on TikTok. This integration is big news for creators, performers, and anyone who hosts their own events, as they can now promote and sell their tickets seamlessly on TikTok. Fans can also help promote ticket sales for events they're interested in, as any TikTok user can link to events - not just creators. The integration allows users to promote multiple event links on videos, and users will be shown the most relevant event based on their location. This is great news for musicians and artists on TikTok, as well as any community group that wants to promote meet-ups or other events. Read more.

The Threads Bonus Program is paying off for creators

In April, Meta announced plans to test a “Threads Bonus program” to incentivize popular creators to keep using the app. Select creators were invited to post on Threads, and a post with more than 2,500 views was eligible for cash. The more engaging content you share, the more you can earn. For now, the bonus program is invite-only and limited to users in the US, but some creators are reporting over $5000 per post, making this a new lucrative way to earn money online. Read more.
